I was wondering if a rainbarrel would really catch enough rain if you didn t use gutters.
Rain barrel but no gutter.
They are short sections of aluminum usually only several feet long that are fitted underneath the shingles of the roof to form a metal wall that diverts the rainwater away.
Many people want to save rain water but do not have a gutter system.
Certainly a gutter system is a natural way to harvest the rain that washes over the roof as it directs it into a concentrated location and fills your barrel quite quickly most barrels fill in less than 1 4 of rain.
Use a hose clamp to secure the hose to the overflow spout.
The barrel would have to be open top and you d have to put it in a place where the downpour was greatest off the roof.
You could instead attach the hose to a second rain barrel for a daisy chain of rain barrels.
These diverters are not gutters.
Insert the other end of the hole in the gutter.
Most homes direct water into the barrel with gutters and downspouts but even homes without gutters can use a rain barrel.
