It is a low maintenance mass growing system that can grow many large and small crops at once. Note that metal rain gutters will eventually rust although you can still use them. A typical soilless potting mix just like what is used for any potted plant works well for a rain gutter planter. Ideally the water from your rain garden should drain within 12 hours or a within 24 hours at the most.

You may need to add compost to lighten the soil if you have heavy soil. Pvc rain gutters will last indefinitely. The rain gutters you use for gardening need some preparation first. The containers soak up water from the rain gutter using a net cup on the bottom of each container.
